Abstract
Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), one of the first domesticated crops, holds significant agricultural importance and is globally ranked fourth among crops, following wheat, rice, and maize. Powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis) is one of the most important diseases in barley. Upon epidemic situation, the aerial organs of the plant are covered with a white powder that contains conidia, the causal agent of powdery mildew disease. As a result, powdery mildew has a negative effect on the photosynthetic activities of plants, leading in decreasing in yield and economic losses. Transcription of defense response genes is activated in response to barley powdery mildew disease, and elicitors of the pathogen are also involved in this response. Plant defense mechanisms against reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced in response to both biotic and abiotic stresses are involved the deployment of antioxidant enzymes. These enzymes possess the capability to either scavenge or neutralize ROS, consequently mitigating their detrimental impacts
